FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT SHOULD I DO DURING A MASSAGE OR BODYWORK SESSION?
Prior to the massage, feel free to ask any questions about the technique or the upcoming session. And please communicate any expectations you have around the session. During the massage, make yourself comfortable. I will most likely do all the movement necessary throughout the session, e.g. lifting your arms or legs. It is most helpful to me if you can completely relax while communicating any of your needs, such as more or less pressure, another blanket or anything else it may help me to know. If you have questions about a particular technique you are receiving, please feel free to ask. There really are no rules except for honoring whatever you are experiencing at that moment and treating each other with compassion and respect. How can that possibly go wrong?
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR DURING A MASSAGE?
Clothing restricts the flow of lymph and is cumbersome to work around. You will be modestly draped under a sheet with only the part of the body I am currently working on being uncovered. So, my preference is that you wear nothing but, ultimately, you will decide what is best for you. If you need to leave on any clothing for any reason, I am able to accommodate your needs and work around these restrictions.
WHAT IS REIKI:
Reiki is a Japanese technique that helps promote healing. It is based on the concept that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. A Reiki practitioner has been attuned to this life force energy and uses this attunement in order to channel universal healing energy. Reiki is very calming and relaxing.
ARE THERE ANY MEDICAL CONDITIONS THAT WOULD MAKE MASSAGE OR BODYWORK INADVISABLE?
Yes. That why it is imperative that you share all health information and inform me of any and all health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor’s care, it is advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage or bodywork prior to any session. Depending on your condition, approval from your doctor may be required.
IS IT OK TO HAVE A COLONIC IF I HAVE MY PERIOD?
Yes. During your menstrual cycle your body is in the cleansing mode. Most women report that receiving a colonic just before, or the day you start, your cycle, reduces the duration of your cycle by about half.
WHO SHOULD GET A COLONIC?
In today’s day and age, colon cleansing can benefit pretty much everyone. Our bodies are overloaded with toxins ingested from denatured and processed foods, chemically fertilized and sprayed produce, tap water, polluted air, alcohol and drugs. Even if we reduce this pollution as much as we can, the build up in the body needs to be removed. Symptoms indicating toxic build-up may include: chronic fatigue, depression, headaches, irritability, protruding abdomen, dark circles under the eyes, bad breath, coated tongue, flatulence, constipation, diarrhea and many more.
ARE COLONICS SAFE?
ARE COLONICS PAINFUL?
No. If there is any discomfort, please convey this. Occasionally, when matter is released by the colon, you can feel the intestines contracting (peristalsis). Peristalsis is the natural way the colon moves in order to evacuate its contents. If you feel this contraction, any discomfort can often be alleviated with gentle massage techniques. Most clients report feeling refreshed and lighter after a colonic.
DO I NEED A PRESCRIPTION?
It is recommended that you consult with your doctor before pursuing any alternative therapies, especially if you have any medical issues. In addition, there are certain conditions for which colonics are contraindicated. I will ask you a very specific set of questions before I schedule your first session. This helps to ensure that any pertinent issues are addressed before you arrive for your first session.
HOW MANY COLONICS DO I NEED?
The number of colonics will depend on your individual goals. I suggest that if you are planning to decide if colonics are for you, please commit to at least three sessions. This gives the body the chance to relax into the therapy. Judging colon hydrotherapy after only one session doesn’t allow us to experience and then determine what a typical session is for your body. I personally receive the work on a monthly basis when I am feeling well, more often if I am facing challenges to my wellness.
HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN MY COLON IS EMPTY?
The colon is an organ that processes our waste every minute of every day so it will probably never be empty. It is usually surprising to newer clients to realize how much matter they will actually move out of their colon, even if they had a colonic the day prior. The goal of colon hydrotherapy is to remove fecal plaque and other toxins that have accumulated over time and provide a healthier environment so the good gut flora can thrive. Another benefit of regular colonics is that it strengthens the musculature of the colon making it stronger and better able to function when not receiving colon hydrotherapy.
IS IT OK IF I AM ON MY PERIOD
Yes. Because the body is already in cleansing mode during menstruation, this is a very good time to get a colonic. Most women report that if they get a colonic right before or the day they start, it seems to shorten the duration of their cycle by about half.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER MY COLONIC?
Most individuals report feeling cleaner and lighter after a colonic. If your colon has a lot of old debris and is somewhat toxic, you might experience some minor nausea or fatigue. It is best to drink plenty of pure water and rest with castor oil or peppermint applied externally to the belly. These symptoms usually pass within 24 hours.
